An Experiment, pt. 7
The "Experiment" is now one week old. In my first post, I wrote that I had taken inspiration from Jim Hanas. Jim also ran an experiment: He wrote daily (mostly on matters of culture and technology, and mostly journalistically), and told himself that if he made it a week, he'd name the column/series of posts (If you don't read Plus Ça Change, you should; it's consistently interesting and well written.). My experiment is now a week old, and I think I'd like to continue doing this, so perhaps it's time to name it. But first:
The experiment was this: to write every day and to do so publicly. Subsequent to that major experiment were some minor experiments: to write consequentially about matters of seeming inconsequence, and to test the connective tissue between paragraphs (how far could it be stretched before breaking? if it broke, could it be repaired later?). The major experiment will not change. The subsequent/minor experiments always will. Some experiments (large and small) will succeed. Some will fail. Failure is just a type of success. Especially considering that
There were also some rules: Write in pencil. Write the post in one sitting. Write on one side of one sheet of notebook paper until that page is full (the notebook paper I use has ≈40 lines/page). Type that writing into a word processing program. Edit minimally (rearranging paragraphs counts as "minimal"). Copy that into G+. Repeat daily, but take breaks as necessary. Rules may be broken.
So then yes, it's time to name this experiment, because simply *An Experiment* won't do, is too boring, tells the reader almost nothing (other than "here's an experiment," which of course could be almost anything: random strings of letters and number trying to find a meaning, all of Á La recherche du temps perdu retyped backwards—but I suppose I'm not ruling those things out). The obvious choice would be to use some variation on the phrase "rocket to nowhere" since it's been part of my so-called brand identity since 1989 or so. Perhaps though, since I have used that phrase in several other places, it's time to mix things up. I like anagrams. Here, then, are some options:
- To Reckon Whereto
- Coherent Toe Work
- To Work Once There
- Three Ton Coworker
(I also quite like Hot Teen Coworker, which might get me a lot of hits, but at what cost? So it's out.)
Which of these four, based on what I've already written this past week, do you, kind Reader, prefer? And why?
Thank you very much if you've read this far. Thank you in advance for reading future installments of _________________.
