An Experiment, pt. 6

There is rhythmic clapping happening near here. Now it has stopped. Now it has been replaced by the opening guitar riff to Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing." Now that has stopped.

Was there as big a fuss over the use of the word "faggot" in that song as there was in Guns-n-Roses' song "One in a Million"?

Who would win a "Devil Went Down to Georgia"-style duel (with guitars, of course) between Mark Knopfler and Slash? In his song, Charlie Daniels doesn't specify any rules, but Johnny obviously wins. There would have to be some rules, some judging criteria. I think Mark Knopfler is a cheat.

I don't miss the 80s. I hope big hair doesn't come back. I sometimes think big hair is what really got people to think about the ozone layer. I knew at least one girl with a can of Aqua Net in her bag, one in her locker, and one in the glove compartment of her car. Her favorite bands were Guns-n-Roses, Poison, and Motley Crüe.

I started learning German in 1989. I had always suspected the umlauts in Motley Crüe and Motörhead were useless, but I had no idea trying to pronounce them would be so entertaining.

Now there is rhythmic chanting and clapping. I will avoid the obvious comment about such activities in Germany. I shouldn't even have written that sentence. It's a cheap and ridiculous association.

One of the guys who lives on my floor in this dorm entered the kitchen last night as I was leaving. A short while later, I heard him scream two or three times, "Du störst mich!!!" ("You bother me!!!"). I had been in the kitchen with an observant muslim man from Tunisia who, when I commented that the food he was preparing looked yummy, shared it with me. I can only assume he was still in the kitchen when the screaming happened.

I broke down and bought cookies today. I had been trying not to. Nobody really needs all that processed sugar and flour. But dammit they're tasty.

Should I have gone back to the kitchen and intervened?
